“Deep beats, piano and trumpet overtones — pure Detroit House magic.”
Why I Stock This Record
This is a deep house / Detroit House marvel from Waajeed. The EP features three standout tracks — “Motor City Madness”, “The Dub”, and especially “Right Now” — which I regularly play myself.
What I love most is the combination of deep, rolling beats, beautiful piano lines, and those haunting trumpet overtones that give the record such a rich, atmospheric feel. It’s soulful, hypnotic, and built with real Detroit character.
If you’re a serious vinyl collector or DJ who appreciates proper deep house and Detroit House with depth and emotion, this Tresor release is a must-have for the crate. Clean copy and plays strong every time.
Review
Motor City earned its name thanks to the increased mobility bestowed unto black Americans thanks to the invention of the car, and the centrality of the car industry on Detroit. On his latest LP, house maestro Waajeed pays homage to the joys of black leisure and play in the city, which came about in large part thanks to technological advancements such as this. In his own words, 'Memoirs Of Hi Tech Jazz' signifies the 'transition from labor to pleasure', a transition we can all but dream of in today's age. Laid-back, frivolous, decadent house tones blend effortlessly with super-swirly jazz motifs.
